The Twenty-Second Judicial District Commission on
Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Susan Wendall
Whicher BE RETAINED.
In September 2000, Judge Whicher was appointed Dolores County Court
Judge with a starting date of January 2001. Before assuming the
duties of Dolores County Court Judge, Judge Whicher had been a sole
practitioner with a practice in family law and mediation.
Judge Whicher received an undergraduate degree from Cornell University,
master's degree at the University of Denver, and her law degree
at the University of Denver. Judge Whicher is the sole County Court
Judge in Dolores County and hears a variety of criminal and civil
cases.
In making the decision to retain Judge Whicher the Commission reviewed
written evaluations of Judge Whicher by attorneys and non-attorneys.
These evaluations included verbatim comments attached to the evaluation
and self-evaluation compiled by Judge Whicher, together with comments
from open meetings to gather public comments, and personal interview
with Judge Whicher.
Judge Whicher has annually attended, on scholarship, judicial trainings
through the National Judicial College to improve her knowledge of
criminal law. Judge Whicher is active in the Dolores County community.
She appears on DVTV called The Judge's Corner, is active with the
library board, the 4-H club, and the Dolores County Resource Center.
Judge Whicher received high ratings in her communication skills,
demeanor, and case management. Of the attorneys surveyed, 100% recommended
Judge Whicher be retained in office. Of non-attorneys, 64% recommended
retention and 35% recommended non-retention. |
