| The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial
Performance, by a vote of nine to zero, recommends that Judge Karla
J. Hansen BE RETAINED.
Judge Hansen was appointed as an El Paso County Court Judge in
August 2001. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Hansen
served as a part-time Colorado Springs Municipal Court Judge and
had an active law practice specializing in the areas of criminal
defense, divorce, and guardian ad litem advocacy. She also served
as a Fourth Judicial District Deputy District Attorney from 1986
to 1994. Judge Hansen is a graduate of the University of Utah Law
School, and is active in the community through her church. Judge
Hansen is committed to improving the efficiency of the legal process
to better serve the citizenry.
Attorney questionnaires received by the Commission rate Judge Hansen
high in the areas of case management, communications, punctuality,
and giving all participants an opportunity to be heard. Of the attorney
responses received, 78% strongly recommended to retain Judge Hansen.
Non-attorney responses rate Judge Hansen high in the areas of demeanor,
diligence, neutrality, and the application of the law. Of the non-attorney
responses received, 90% voted to strongly or somewhat recommend
retention.
