| The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial
Performance recommends that Judge Daniel S. Wilson BE
RETAINED. Of the ten members on the Commission, nine voted
for retention with one absent during the retention vote.
Judge Wilson was appointed to the El Paso County Court in 2002.
Judge Wilson handles mostly misdemeanor criminal, civil, and traffic
cases. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Colorado
Springs and the University of Nebraska School of Law prior to his
appointment to the bench. Judge Wilson was in private practice in
Phoenix and Denver and served as a Deputy District Attorney in the
Fourth Judicial District.
The Commission based its recommendation on the results of 83 detailed
surveys completed by attorneys from the district attorney's office,
attorneys for defendants, law enforcement officers, court employees,
defendants, jurors, and others who have appeared in Judge Wilson's
court. In addition, the Commission interviewed Judge Wilson, took
comments from the public at a hearing, and reviewed a self evaluation
completed by Judge Wilson.
Based on the results of 34 attorney and 49 non-attorney surveys,
84% of the attorney and 88% of the non-attorney respondents recommended
Judge Wilson for retention. Judge Wilson was rated above average
in the areas of treating people representing themselves fairly and
impartiality by jurors, law enforcement officers, and other non-attorneys.
Survey comments from both attorneys and non-attorneys included "understanding,"
"respectful, intelligent, honest, detailed," "very
fair," and "very professional and experienced." Judge
Wilson's experience, professionalism, and dedication make him an
excellent candidate for retention.
