The Fifth Judicial District Commission on Judicial
Performance recommends that Judge Wayne Patton BE
RETAINED.
Judge Patton received his bachelor's degree from Denison University
in 1980 and his law degree from the University of Denver College
of Law in 1983. He has enrolled in a course on evidence at the National
Judicial College this summer. He has served as County Judge in Lake
County since January 2001. Before that he was a Lake County Special
Attorney, Leadville City Attorney as well as being in private practice.
In addition to his duties as Lake County Judge, he continues to
have a private practice.
This is Judge Patton's first review since taking to the bench.
Attorneys scored Judge Patton above all other County Judges in all
categories. Non-attorneys scored Judge Patton high as well, with
him being slightly below his peer group in all categories except
"Overall Application of the Law," where he scored slightly
higher than other County Judges.
The opinion of the groups responding to the statistically meaningful
numbers to the surveys circulated by the State Commission on Judicial
Performance (and the numbers responding) were are follows: Non-attorneys
– Retain – 86%, Undecided – 8%, Do not retain
– 7%; Attorneys (45) – Retain 95%, Undecided –
2%, Do not retain – 3%.
