The Sixth Judicial District Commission on Judicial
Performance recommends that Judge Todd Risberg BE
RETAINED. The commission voted 9 in favor, with 1 abstention
due to the fact that the commission member was not present for the
personal interview or the public hearing.
Judge Risberg was appointed to the San Juan County Court bench
in November, 2001. Prior to his appointment, Judge Risberg began
his career as a clerk for Judge Woodford in the First Judicial District
in l994-1995. Judge Risberg was in private practice in Denver from
l995-1997, and worked in the District Attorneys Office in the Sixth
Judicial District from 1997-2000. Judge Risberg was in private practice
from 2000 until the present time, where he continues his private
practice part time. Judge Risberg graduated from University of Colorado
School of Law in 1994.
The Commission reviewed written surveys of Judge Risberg from attorneys
and non-attorneys, including written verbatim comments included
in the questionnaires. The Commission also considered a written
self-evaluation completed by Judge Risberg, conducted a personal
interview with Judge Risberg and held a public hearing to consider
any other comments.
Judge Risberg is extremely well liked and has an outstanding reputation
in the community. He received high ratings in every category, with
special notations commending his for his fairness, correctly applying
the law, performing with diligence and for his personable behavior.
Judge Risberg has successfully transitioned to the position of County
Judge and has become a valuable member of the community. Of the
attorneys responding to the questionnaire, 100% recommended that
Judge Risberg be retained in office. The non attorneys responding
to the surveys voted 91% in favor of retention, while the number
voting not to retain was 9%. |
